Zubeen Garg News Update: Second Post-Mortem, Sarusajai Tribute & Last Rites

Second Post-Mortem of Zubeen Garg to be Conducted at GMCH: Final Journey Details

The entire state of Assam continues to mourn the untimely demise of its beloved cultural icon Zubeen Garg. In a new development, the Assam government has confirmed that a second post-mortem of the legendary singer’s body will be conducted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, before his final rites.

Why a Second Post-Mortem?

The demand for a second post-mortem arose not just from political leaders like Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi, but also from various social media influencers, artists, and members of the public. On platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X, thousands of fans expressed concerns and urged the government to conduct another autopsy in Guwahati to ensure full transparency.

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma initially admitted he was “personally opposed” to the idea, as the first post-mortem had already been carried out. However, given the widespread demand and after discussions with Zubeen Garg’s family—especially his wife Garima Saikia Garg—the government decided to move forward since the family raised no objections.

The second post-mortem is scheduled to begin around 7:00–7:30 a.m.

Zubeen Garg’s Final Journey

After the medical procedures at GMCH, the mortal remains of Zubeen Garg will be brought to Sarusajai Stadium, where thousands of grieving fans are expected to gather to pay their last respects.

The stadium has already turned into an emotional ground zero, with people from all over Assam and the Northeast arriving to honor their hero. Social media has been flooded with heartfelt tributes, emotional reels, and live videos capturing the collective grief of millions.

From Sarusajai, the body will then be taken to Kamarkuchi-Hatimura near Sonapur, on the outskirts of Guwahati, where the last rites will be performed with full respect and traditions.

A Legend Forever in Our Hearts

Zubeen Garg was not just a singer—he was the heartbeat of Assamese culture, a voice that connected generations and gave identity to Assamese music on the national stage. His sudden departure has left an unfillable void, but his voice, melodies, and legacy will continue to inspire forever.

While the second post-mortem may answer medical and legal questions, for the people of Assam, Zubeen Da’s memory will always remain beyond doubt—pure, powerful, and eternal.
