Key message-
-Children learn in different ways some learn by seeing, some by hearing, some by reading, and some by doing. And all children benefit from having a variety of learning experiences.
•When children are experimenting, exploring,and creating with a range of materials, they learn about problem-solving in situations where there are no set or ‘right’ answers.
•Young children learn to behave appropriately to a large extend by observing or imitating others around them.

Key message
Play opportunities and environments that promote play, exploration, and hands-on learning should be at the core of Anganwadi centres.
Through play, children are learning to make decisions, exercise self-control, problem-solve, and follow rules.
Free play provides opportunities for children to express their thoughts and feelings, interact with each other, play together with peers, imagine, express their imagination, and explore their surroundings.
When an Anganwadi worker plans to play a game in a particular way, she then initiates and guides it, this is called guided play

Long-term Goals define those concepts, skills, and values that children will be able to achieve at the end of the programme.

Topic: Theme-based approach
Expected Learning Outcomes:
• Understand implementing preschool curriculum using a theme-based approach.
Key message:
• In a theme-based approach, it is important to identify topics that are interesting to children and relate to their environment, experience, and culture.
• The Anganwadi centre should have displays that reflect the topic or theme selected.
• The theme-based approach enables children to find themes relevant to their
surroundings which makes the learning experience meaningful and enjoyable.

Topic: ECCE Programme planning using a theme-based approach
Expected Learning Outcomes:
• Understand planning play and learning activities following a theme-based approach.
Key message
• Identifying possible sub-themes from the main theme will help the Anganwadi workers to design play and learning activities.
• It is necessary to verify that the play and learning activities that have been planned help to achieve short-term goals of development. This will then enable children to achieve the long-term development goal at the end of the year.
• When play and learning activities are planned around the theme, it supports development across different domains leading to the overall development of children.

Topic: Importance of developmentally appropriate activities

• Understand the key features of developmentally appropriate activities
• Understand the importance of planning developmentally appropriate activities
Key message
• Developmentally, the activities are suitable for children of different ages and their developmental levels, thus building activities that are neither too difficult nor too easy, according to the child’s abilities, and so children are interested and engaged in doing them.
• Developmentally appropriate activities are tailored to each child’s pace and stage of development.
• Developmentally appropriate activities provide appropriate experiences for children to learn, thereby promoting optimal child development in all areas of development.

Key message:
• Classroom management in Anganwadi centres is more about the culture and the environment than it is about managing children.
• The purpose of activity corners is to give children the opportunity to experiment, explore, investigate, and be creative.

Topic: Daily and Weekly Planning
Expected Learning Outcomes:
• Understand the concept, its importance, and principles of daily and weekly planning.
Key message:
• The weekly plan is the list of play-based activities and learning experiences to be organized that week.
• A daily plan includes an extensive description of play-based activities, learning experiences, and daily routine activities organized during the day.
• The daily and weekly plan is important to work with children on it for a week, as this allows them to conduct the activities meaningfully.
• When activities are organized over a week then the theme-based activities are conducted in a meaningful manner.
• Preparing a plan for a week can ensure that there is coherence and continuity between the activities of the whole week as the children move from simple to complex.

Topic: Develop theme-based weekly and daily plans
Expected Learning Outcomes:
• Able to prepare weekly and daily plans for preschool activities
• Understand how to organize activities for children of different age groups
Key message:
• To make a daily plan first identify the time sessions for the routine daily activities. Then plan the learning experiences and playing activities in the remaining sessions.
• Some of the activities can be conducted with all children of different age groups participating together, while some activities need to be organized differently for
children of different age groups.
