Anganwadi: Supporting Children’s Growth and Health

Malnutrition poses a significant challenge in India, affecting countless families and communities

A large number of children under the age of six do not receive adequate nutritious food, which can hinder their growth and development in both subtle and severe ways.

However, there is hope emerging from unexpected places.

Anganwadi centers have taken on the difficult but deeply meaningful work of providing children and mothers with the nutrition and healthcare they require to survive and to thrive.

At these centers, food is distributed, health is monitored, small ailments are treated, and education is offered to at-risk children and their mothers.

The Anganwadi workers serving these families take on burdens much greater than expected. They offer compassion, care, and assistance far beyond what could be reasonably asked of any one person to children and mothers who are in dire need and deeply suffering. Through tireless effort and boundless empathy, support is provided.

Thanks to the interventions of Anganwadi, divided and once disparate families are becoming whole and numerous children, previously ailing and overlooked, are now joyfully learning and growing into healthy youth.
Yet despite these gains, it remains clear that much is left to accomplish

Anganwadi workers play a crucial role in polio immunization efforts. As part of their duties, they help organize and conduct polio vaccination drives in their respective areas. On designated polio immunization days, Anganwadi workers visit door-to-door, administering polio drops to children .

They also maintain records of vaccinations, track defaulters, and provide education to parents on the importance of polio immunization. Through their tireless efforts, Anganwadi workers have contributed significantly to India's progress in polio eradication.

It is essential to ensure the sustainability and expansion of these centers so that every child in India has the opportunity for good health, learning, and safety.
